It is used in respiration, brain function and movement. To a greater extent, ATP is consumed during strenuous sports performance. However, d-ribose differs from ordinary carbohydrates in that it is part of the nucleotides, which are among the building blocks of RNA, or ribonucleic acids. RNA is, like DNA, responsible for the preservation and transmission of genetic information.
This monosaccharide is also ingested from common foods, such as fruits and vegetables. In the form of nutritional supplements, its properties make it particularly suitable for athletes and anyone else who wants to take care of their health.
